| How to Spread Bet
The key to spread betting successfully is the same as playing most any other gambling game. In order to place a bet that has a reasonable chance of winning, you have to employ your knowledge about the game and be smart about your betting.
Old Habits
One of the key components of any type of successful gambling is self-discipline. All too often, people who have been gambling for long periods of time tend to fall into a gambling rut. They depend too much on what they think the result will be without checking out the latest statistics and numbers on the game they are playing or betting on. Although you still stand a high chance of losing—after all, that is the risk factor involved in gambling—you can improve your chances of successful spread betting greatly by avoiding falling into old habits. If you are placing your bets on the financial market, don’t depend on how much a company usually trades for. Do some research on the latest numbers and make an educated decision. If you are spread betting on a horse race, for example, don’t just choose a winning time at random. Do some research on the average times for the track the horses will be running on and then consider other factors, such as the track conditions and the previous performances of each horse at that particular track.
Placing a Bet
The concept of spread betting is simple. You are consulting with a firm that has determined the results of the event or company you are betting on. If, for example, you will be betting on the stock market, you will consider how the firm thinks a particular company will do. If the firm says the company will sell at a certain price, you can choose to bet whether that company will actually sell higher or lower. If you believe the firm is correct, you would not place a bet. However, if you bet the company will sell higher and it does, you will be paid the dividends of your bet plus however much more the company sold or traded for. The same goes for placing a losing bet, in which you would lose the money you bet plus the amount that the company actually sold for.
Although the concept is simple, it is still important to consult a more seasoned player before placing a bet yourself to learn the ropes of the game.
